Frequently Asked Questions

Q: When is the first day of practice?

A: Conditioning begins Wednesday, August 11th, 2010, 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Q: What nights and at what time are the practices?

A: Before school starts, practices will be Monday through Thursday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.  After school starts, practices will be Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 6:00pm to 8:00 pm.  However, once it starts getting dark earlier, practices may end earlier.

Q: How can I become a coach?

A: Fill out the coach's questionnaire online and submit to the board.  The board will review the information and vote on who the coaches will be.  The process could also involve meeting/interviewing with the board.

Q: What equipment is provided to my child and what will I have to provide?

A: Players are provided with a helmet, shoulder pads, pads for their pants, 1 pair of practice pants, 1 pair of game pants, a mouth guard, a practice jersey, and a game jersey (the game jersey is theirs to keep after the season ends).  Players must provide their own cleats (no metal cleats) and their own athletic supporter/cup.

Q: Where are practices and games held?

A: All practices this year will be held at the Ovid field.  Home games will also be played at the Ovid field.

Q: Why are kids in the same grade split into two teams?

A: We want to make every effort possible to allow each player as much time on the field during games as we can.  A large number of players on one team makes that goal very challenging.  By splitting into smaller teams, each player will have many more opportunities for playing time during the games.  Smaller team sizes also allow the coaches to work more closely with the players during practice.

Q: How is it determined which child will play on which team when they are split?

A: The head coaches (along with a representative from the board) will meet privately and determine the teams.

Q: What is a Team Coordinator and why does each team have one?

A: The team coordinator acts as a liaison between the parents and the coaching staff.  If a parent has a question or a complaint about something that is happening on the football field (during practice or games), they would take that information to the team coordinator.  The same holds true if the coaches need to pass information along to the parents.  The team coordinator also is responsible for ensuring volunteers are signed up for all the various duties on game-day.
